Kevin Brockmeier at Faulkner County Library

National best selling author Kevin Brockmeier will appear at the Faulkner County Library, 1900 Tyler St. on December 13th at 7:00 pm. Kevin Brockmeier will speak on his book The Brief History of the Dead.
Kevin Brockmeier one of this generation’s most inventive young writers. Brockmeier is an American writer of fantasy and literary fiction. He has published a collection of stories, two children’s novels, and two fantasy novels. He taught at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (where he received his MFA in 1997) and lives in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has received numerous awards including: the O. Henry Award (2002 for the short story “The Ceiling"), Nelson Algren Award, and Italo Calvino Short Fiction Award. Brockmeier’s short stories have appeared in many publications, including The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, The Georgia Review, and The Carolina Quarterly.
A Brief History of the Dead was selected for What if All of Arkansas Read the Same Book in November of 2007. Brockmeier interweaves two spellbinding tales of human connection, self-preservation, and the future of mankind in A Brief History of the Dead. Newsweek writes that A Brief History of the Dead is “Fantasy at the level of literature…Imagine a city of the dead. Imagine a scientist very much alive and stranded in Antarctica who realizes she may be one of the few people on the planet left alive after a massive plague. Now imagine a novelist shrewd enough to connect these two realities.” The Seattle Times refers to A Brief History of the Dead as “shimmering” and “thought provoking.” A Brief History of the Dead is a national best seller.
In addition to Brockmeier’s appearance at 7:00, the library will be holding a book club meeting and discussion at 11:00 am on December 13. The club will discuss A Brief History of the Dead. The event as well as the book club meeting/discussion is free and open to the public. No sign up required for either event. Brockmeier will have copies of his books for sell and signing at the evening event.  For more information contact Sarah at the Faulkner County Library, 501-327-7482 or .
