Tom’s Music Recommendations for 02/2010
By: Thomas Nash | Feb. 5th 2010
David Rawlings Machine - Friend of a Friend For many years David Rawlings has supported the amazing Gillian Welch. This album is a bit of a reversal, in that Welch is found supporting Rawlings. Great music to listen to while driving.
Standout track: “Sweet Tooth”
Normal As Blueberry Pie – Nellie McKay There may be other tributes to Doris Day out there, but I don’t think there is one better than this. Nellie McKay does an excellent job of reminding the listener of the high quality of Doris Day’s musical output.
Standout track: “Sentimental Journey”
Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - S/T An amazing debut album. If you were a fan of bands like Yo La Tengo or My Bloody Valentine, then this album is for you. Simply put: this is “shoegazer” music done right.
Standout track: “Stay Alive”
St. Vincent - Actor Reminds me of early Bjork with her attention to musical detail and diversity of sounds.
Standout track: “Marrow”
